Mindful Movement & Breath Sessions

WHAT CAN I EXPECT IN A MOVEMENT SESSION?

Mindful Movement Sessions include trauma-informed yoga, breath work, mindful strength & mobility, and myofascial release techniques. Sessions are designed to support clients in building resilience, developing a deeper connection to the body, and creating mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing.

How is a session structured?

The structure of each session differs widely depending on the clients goals and needs. During a Movement Therapy session, there might be less talking and more movement, or more talking and less movement, depending on what the client needs that day.

The client typically comes with something they want to work on through movement & yoga. For example, support for chronic pain/tension, increasing strength & mobility, releasing stress, connecting to the body, etc. As we work with the body through movement, its possible that a client may experience a trigger/activation. If this happens, we would work to create nervous system support & regulation in the session, as well as process emotion & activation and how it manifests in the body.

Whatever comes up will be integrated into the session and there is always space for somatic processing. Whether we are talking or moving, we make sure to stay within the client’s window of capacity and tolerance to build resilience and allow space for integration.

Modalities used in Movement Sessions

Yoga & Myofascial Release

We may use therapeutic movement, yoga asana, and myofascial release tools including Yoga Tune Up balls & foam roller techniques. Yoga & Myofascial Release can support the following:

- Restoring balance and homeostasis to the body

- Support healing of chronic pain, improve immune function, and increase circulation

- Reduce muscle tension while maintaining natural biotensegrity within the fascial system

- Support mood, sleep, and overall wellbeing

Mindful Strength & Mobility

We may use a variety of mindful strength & mobility techniques including: kettlebell, Indian Clubs, mace training, and weights to support the following:

- Recover your relationship to exercise through embodied movement

- Access your innate strength and step into your empowerment

- Enhance resiliency and responsiveness in the nervous system

- Increase capacity for stress & challenge

Breath Work & Inner Core Unit

Together we work to see what is most supportive for you in terms of breath training, breathwork and breathing biomechanics.

Trauma and chronic stress can impact our patterns of breathing which can impact the nervous system and mental wellbeing. Curious about the breath’s impact on wellbeing? Read more in the SW Journal.

Breath work & Inner Core Unit Training may include;

- Breathwork and retraining breathing biomechanics

- Developing inner core unit strength. The inner core unit goes hand in hand with developing more supportive breathing patterns, functional movement patterns, and support in injury prevention and recovery

- The connection of the breath to traumatic stress & nervous system support
